Students take part in 'move-in day'

Pass through the pillars

CHENEY - As move-in day unfolded at Eastern Washington University on Sept. 14 and 15, groups of students were seen walking around the Arevalo Student Mall, from Patterson Hall to the JFK Library.

The grass was vibrant green and the sun poured over the buildings. We had the pleasure of interviewing students who shared their perspectives on the upcoming academic year and their favorite things about campus life here.

Jacob, 22, from Colville is looking forward to a good school year on campus and is set to take on the academic challenges and opportunities that are ahead of him. His eyes light up when he talks about his "Senior Capstone" course for his Business Science Major. He says he's ready to dive deep into the world of business.

When asked about his favorite thing at the university, Jacob highlights its small and familiar atmosphere.

He values the close-knit community that comes with a smaller university, where he can build meaningful connections with both peers and faculty.

Erin, 18, from California, has a lot of enthusiasm as she prepares for her upcoming quarter at Eastern. Her academic curiosity is apparent as she looks forward to taking "Intro to Political Theory" this fall. It's evident that Erin is not just dedicated to her sport but is also keen on expanding her knowledge of the world.

Erin's favorite thing about the school is the university's picturesque campus.

The beauty of the surroundings adds to her college experience, a beautiful environment for both academics and athletics.

Aiden, a 19-year-old from Medical Lake, is considering a major in Finance.

He's excited to take "East Asian History" in the upcoming fall quarter. Aiden's enthusiasm reflects his intellectual curiosity and desire to explore diverse academic subjects.

Aiden's favorite thing about attending Eastern is the vibrant social scene and the numerous opportunities it offers.

He values the sense of community and the bustling campus life, where there's always something happening. For Aiden, this school is not just about academics; "it's a place to forge connections and seize opportunities."

As classes started up on Sept. 20, these students' perspectives remind us of the diverse experiences and opportunities that await them. Their enthusiasm sets a positive tone for the upcoming academic year, highlighting the promise of growth, learning, and community.

The festivities continued through the weekend, and on Tuesday Sept. 19 over 1,300 first time freshman were welcomed to campus as they passed through the Herculean Pillars outside of Showalter Hall.

Passing through the pillars is one of Eastern's oldest traditions.

Students then went to enjoy some yard games and barbecue before the official start of classes on Sept. 20.
