Medical Lake to hold weekly meetings

Directly addressing community

MEDICAL LAKE – It was initially announced during the Aug. 29 special council session that the city is working on initiating weekly meetings to address community needs more directly.

Mayor Terri Cooper said the meeting that day was a special session and thus they did not allocate time for public comment, but that is one of the reasons they decided to have weekly meetings.

“This is a council briefing, it’s a special meeting, we are not going to have citizen comment tonight,” Cooper said. “For the sake of time, and because we want to have more time to hear your comments so we will be moving to weekly meetings.”

City Administrator Sonny Weathers hinted to the idea that the announced meeting will be community centered and will be different than average council sessions.

“Our goal is to host weekly community meetings to share information and hear from community members their needs and concerns,” Weathers said. “So, we’re working out a location and a time and as soon as we can put that on the calendar, we will be sure to share.”

“Those weekly meetings are for everybody to come,” he added.

According to Weathers this will also provide an opportunity for the city to keep the residents updated with any pertinent information.

Weathers also said these meetings will be in place until the needs of everyone are fulfilled.

“Those will go on until there is no more need,” Weathers said. “If that takes years then we will hold weekly community meetings for years to support the community because that’s what we’re here for.”
