Council approves preservation award

CHENEY — The Council unanimously passed a resolution to award a contract for the residential street preservation project at their regular meeting on Aug. 22.

“This is a different style of construction. They will grind the whole road surface out, regrade the subsurface, pound it down, do a concrete base treatment to stiffen up the whole structure,” Todd Ableman, Public Works Director, said.

This stretch of road is near Crunks field, and in order to avoid incorporating potentially contaminated soil into the project, Ableman said that exploratory boring and determined that it was time to start this project.

“The work will include the area from North Sixth Street almost to the Sunrise area,” Todd Ableman, Public Works Director, said.

Bids were opened on August 9th, 2023 for the Residential Street Preservation Project. Three bids were received, with Shamrock Paving submitting the lowest responsible bid in the amount of $ 209,880.00. The Engineer’s estimate for this project was $ 323,985.00

“We are hoping that costs are going to come down; it is already a competitive market out there,” Ableman said.
