Truck collides with train

County employee hospitalized

OTIS ORCHARDS - A Spokane County Public Works truck collided with a train at approximately 10:45 am on Aug. 24 sending one man to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Spokane County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the collision report on N. Lynden Road in Otis Orchards. The location is south of E. Wellesley Ave.

The truck was occupied by a Spokane County employee.

Deputies and Spokane Valley Fire Department arrived, and provided immediate advanced life support medical services.

The man sustained what appeared to be life-threatening injuries and was transported by Life Flight to the hospital, where he continues to receive treatment and is listed in critical but stable condition as of Aug 25.

Spokane County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit Technicians have been investigating the cause of a train/vehicle collision.

Initial information indicates the Spokane County Public Works truck was traveling south on Lynden when the collision with the eastbound train occurred.

According to reports the crossing does not have warning lights, railroad arms or an audible warning.

The intersection does have railroad crossing signage and a stop sign.

No one on the train was injured.

No further information is currently available.
