AIRWAY HEIGHTS — Police officers from both Airway and Cheney collaborated to hold a backpack and school supply drive.
Though the drive is open to community members who wish to donate until Aug. 19, officers from both departments were able to purchase a quantity of supplies thanks to a cash donation from the Cheney Police Guild.
Officers Walters and Fell, of Cheney, and Officer Johnson of Airway Heights, all drove to the Walmart on Sunset Blvd. to make the purchase on Aug. 11.
CHENEY— The police department has officially hired a part-time Crisis Co-Responder, now one of two in the West Plains.
Noel Kuntzmann, a Spokane resident, is still undergoing training and will begin her official duties next week.
Kuntzmann’s counterpart in the Airway Heights area is Jenny Mandin, and both respond to crisis calls involving behavioral health concerns such as a mental health crisis or suicidal ideation.
