City possibly partnering with medical company

Could help fund road project

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – During the Aug. 14 council session Principal Planner Heather Trautman spoke about developing a potential partnership as a new medical facility is slated to be added to a section along 6th Ave.

According to Trautman the project is a group project, with some funding being a grant from Spokane Transit Authority.

The project would extend W 6th Ave. past S. Ketchum Drive connecting it to S. Craig Rd.

Trautman said that after the initial two-million-dollar grant had been accepted by council last October the city began seeking private participation.

According to Trautman CHAS healthcare has recently acquired land in the area as well.

“As you know CHAS acquired just under five acres of the southeast corner of 6th Ave. and Craig,” Trautman said. “To put in a facility which we were told would be installed by 2025 for medical, dental and as a pharmacy.”

The initial grant has grown into a potential partnership according to Trautman, and CHAS may be committing up to $639,000 toward the development of 6th Ave.

Trautman requested a public hearing be set for Aug. 21.

Beyond that she asked that council consider the resolution.
