Candidate amasses 709.84% of vote in first day of counting
LIBERTY LAKE — One candidate has more than doubled all of his opponents in his bid for City Council Position No. 3.
At the end of the first day of ballot counting Tuesday night, Aug. 1, Dan Dunne had 1,450 votes, 70.84%. Larry Marshall was in second with 392 votes, 19.15%, and Keith Kopelson was in third with 197 votes, 9.62%.
Only the Top 2 candidates advance to the general election.
Dunne could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
Despite being in second place, so far, Marshall said he was "very pleased at the results, so far."
"I hope to be in the general election, and I think I am on way,” he said.
“I am excited for everyone in the race, and I hope whoever wins does a great job,” Kopelson added.
The Spokane County Auditor's Office has received 2,065 ballots out of the 8,946 mailed to registered voters.
As of Tuesday night, voter turnout was 23.08%. But that number will go up as late-arriving ballots are counted over the coming days.
The election will be certified Aug. 15.
