Valley grants awarded for park and the HUB

SPOKANE VALLEY - Two grants from the Recreation and Conservation Funding Board and the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program were awarded to the city for the development of Greenacres Community Park and the HUB Sports Center.

A $500,000 grant for the continuing Development of Greenacres Community Park

Will be used to add a tennis court, six pickleball courts; two basketball courts; a backstop; a community garden; shade structures, and trees.

The City, as a sponsor, contributed $1,561,761, bringing the total agreement to $2,061,761 after factoring in an RCO grant contribution.

The City will expand the playground and splash pad, add seventeen parking spaces, pave an existing perimeter path, and renovate the disc golf course to create a three-hole introductory course with practice green.

This project will develop Phase 2 Park Elements at the City's Greenacres Community Park and will also add 17 new parking spaces, pave an existing perimeter path, and renovate the existing disc golf course to create a 3-hole introductory course with practice green.

The other grant awarded to the city is for the Spokane Valley HUB, 19619 E. Cataldo Ave., for $350,000.

The grant provides for a synthetic turf field in the HUB facility and entails the design, earthwork, and cost of synthetic turf for a multiuse field at its Liberty Lake facility.

There are only two accessible synthetic turf fields for public use in Spokane County, which has more than 500,000 residents.

The multiuse field will support soccer, lacrosse, football, rugby, ultimate Frisbee, T-ball, and general exercise. Visit RCO's online Project Snapshot for more information and photographs of this project. This grant is from the Youth Athletic Facilities program.

The Youth Athlectic Facilities organization contributed an additional $350,000, and the City contributed $972,395, bringing the total agreement amount to $1,322,395.
