Primary election ends Tuesday

CHENEY – Spokane County elections officials said ballots are coming in for contested West Plains races on the Aug. 1 primary ballot.

This year so far, 819 ballots (13%) out of 6,298 mailed to registered voters in Cheney had been returned by Tuesday, July 25.

In Airway Heights, 342 (2%) had been returned out of 4,641 so far.

In the Medical Lake School District races, 245 ballots (about 7%) out of 6,792 had been returned.

The Cheney School District ballot return was higher, with 2,596 (11.6%) out of 25,502 returned as of July 25.

At 13.6%., Spokane County Fire District No. 3 voters posted the highest turnout so far, with 2,418 ballots out of 17,771 returned. Ballots can be returned locally to ballot boxes at libraries in Cheney, Medical Lake and Airway Heights.

Ballots can also be returned via U.S. mail; they will be accepted as long as they are postmarked on or before Aug. 1.
