Fairchild flyover for Homerun Derby

Lt. Col. Christopher Dieter comments

SEATTLE - A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III from McChord Air Force Base and a KC-135 Stratotanker from Fairchild Air Force Base conducted a flyover at T-Mobile Park for the Major League Baseball Homerun Derby in Seattle, July 10.

Crews from the 97th Air Refueling Squadron and 62nd Airlift Wing partnered together to demonstrate the role air refueling and airlift have sustaining rapid global mobility.

"Flyovers are such a spectacular show of military capability and airpower. We are America's Air Force and baseball is one of America's favorite past times, and bringing the two together will hopefully inspire that next generation of patriotism," said Katie Spencer, the National Sports Outreach Program Manager for the Department of the Air Force.

Lt. Col. Christopher Dieter, 92nd Operations Group Director of Operations and KC-135 Stratotanker Pilot said of the flyover "Our flyovers showcase the US Air Force's strength and, in some cases, the incredible capabilities of our armed forces."

Dieter said that communities experience a sense of national pride when they witness flyovers and are reassured by the knowledge that the air force is there and committed to protecting the nation and its citizens.

"Flyovers are also a way for those currently serving to inspire young people, our next generation, to consider military service as a career path within the Guard, Reserve or Active Duty," Dieter said.
