Cheney dog park opens

CHENEY – People's furry four legged friends can now enjoy a project over five years in the making.

The dog park on the corner of Highway 904 and Presley Rd. officially opened on July 15. Cheney Parks and Recreation held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the project being completed.

Recreation Director Kelly McGinley Ashe was on site to help oversee the event and welcome people and their pups to the new park.

The Cheney Lions Club was onsite to provide guests with free dog treats for the animals.

Hot dogs were available for the people in attendance.

Chris Babcock from Cheney has been the driving force to make this happen as well, saying she started bringing the conversation to the city five years ago.

"I was just at a dog park on the west side of the state and realized Cheney could really benefit from a dog park," Babcock said. "I brought the idea to the city, and they weren't too fond of the idea at first."

She said she had to get all funding donated. as the grants they had applied for were all denied.
