Taste of Thailand in West Plains
AIRWAY HEIGHTS - A new Boba Tea café opened on July 6 at 12924 W Sunset Hwy, Suite. 1 and is now serving the public.
Stephanie Murry, of Airway Heights visited with her friend Maranda Ripplinger, and said it will be good to have this option in the West Plains.
"We normally go to North Town Mall for this, so it's a great addition to Airway," Murry said, "it's one of our favorite treats."
Owners Kate and Tyler Yow got involved in the food industry when they opened a Thai Bistro in Oklahoma.
"We opened that about four years ago, and it has been successful enough that we started thinking about opening another kind of place," Kate Yow said. "We moved here to Airway a little while ago and we feel that Boba is so popular right now that we should open one of our own."
Yow said that she was sitting at home during the pandemic trying to keep herself busy when she started posting her homemade Boba online.
"People on social media responded really well to it. After the demand grew beyond my ability to produce from home, I decided to open this store," Yow said.
The café also serves coffee and homemade single-serve pizzas.
"They're all from scratch and I thought it went well with a small Boba shop," Yow said. "You know, people love coffee in the morning!"
Right now the café has two employees but they will hire more people if needed, Yow said.
"Right now Airway Heights is expanding; we're close to the airport and the base, so to me it only made sense to try. Maybe, depending on how things go, we will open up a Pho restaurant. We want to diversify the selection of food and beverage options in the West Plains," Yow said.
The Boba tea supplies are all procured from a distributor in Thailand, which is not typical of other shops, Yow said.
