Yolanda “Carol” Sanders

May 8, 1953 – March 21, 2023

Yolanda “Carol” Sanders, of Cheney, Wash., passed away surrounded by friends and family on March 21, 2023, in Minneapolis, Minn., from complications with cancer. Carol was born on May 8, 1953, in Burlington, Wash., to Joyce and Lawrence Adamek. She was a graduate of Burlington-Edison High School in 1971, and was the third of four siblings, including two older sisters and a younger brother.

Carol was born and raised in western Washington, where she attended business school, took cake decorating classes, and worked for Skagit Valley Community College. Carol eventually relocated to Cheney, Wash., in 1988 with her then husband, Tom Golden and their two children. Carol worked for Eastern Washington University for over 30 years, supporting multiple departments and making friends everywhere she landed. A two-time breast cancer survivor, Carol was a warrior who gave inspiration and hope to everyone she encountered. Carol remarried in 2018, to her loving husband, Greg Sanders. In their retirement they lived every moment to the fullest, traveling, camping and spending every minute together. Her favorite adventure was their 7700-mile motorcycle trip, crossing 13 different states and riding on Route 66.

Carol was especially known for her love of baking, crafts, reading books and disappearing with her husband on the motorcycle. Family was most important to her, opening her doors to many EWU exchange students over the years, who she immediately considered family. “The more, the merrier” she used to say.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of five years, Greg Sanders of Cheney, Wash .; her children Ryan Golden (Amy) of Spokane, Wash., and Stephanie Medeiros (Randy) of Cheney; her step-children Rhonda Hause of Post Falls, Idaho, Keith Sanders of Quincy, Wash., and Brian Sanders of Quincy; her brother William Adamek (Jeri), sisters Dorothy Walker (John), and Linda Hensen (George) all of Mount Vernon, Wash., (6) grandchildren between Wash., and Texas; (1) great-grandchild in Abilene, Texas; her best friends Errol Jo Wade of Cheney, Wash., and Margaret Grants of Maple Grove, Minn.

There will be a memorial service for Carol on July 29th, 2023, from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. at Sutton Park in Cheney, (On Campus – across from Red Barn). All are welcome to come and share stories about her beautiful life. On-line guest book is at http://www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com
