Eastern basketball schedules released

CHENEY — The Big Sky Conference officially announced its 2023-24 conference basketball schedules June 20 filling in dates for the Eastern Washington men’s and women’s teams. Both will begin conference play on Dec. 28 against Portland State, with the men hosting at Reese Court.

The Eagle women will have to wait a bit longer to open their home conference schedule as they’ll welcome Weber State on Jan. 18. Both will play 18 conference games.

Both teams will travel to Moscow for a doubleheader against Idaho on Jan. 13, then host Idaho in Cheney for the corresponding home doubleheader on Feb. 10.

Eastern won the Big Sky Men’s Basketball Regular Season Championship last season, going 16-2 in conference play, including a record-breaking 16-0 start. They went on to compete in the National Invitation Tournament, winning at Washington State before a narrow loss at Oklahoma State in the second round.

The women finished 11-7 for fourth place, a marked improvement just a year after going 7-13 in 2021-22.

The non-conference games will be announced later this summer.
