Hetty Almira Mclean

Dec. 28, 1927 – June 15, 2023

Hetty Almira McLean entered this world on Dec., 28, 1927. She moved on to her eternal home June 15, 2023 at the age of 95. Born in Kennewick Wash, Hetty and her family relocated to the farm outside of Four Lakes, Wash., at the age of 8 where she was taught by her mother Almira to value hard work and to love animals, particularly horses. Life on the farm was difficult and satisfying for Hetty and her 7 siblings. In 1946 she met her forever love Jack Hartford. The couple married in 1947 and settled into their home in Four Lakes, Wash., where she would live the rest of her life. The two worked together to expand and improve the house that would be home to the couple and their 4 children, Jackie, Linda, Gary and Janet.

Though she had many loves in her life, including bird watching, gardening and growing beautiful flowers, relationships were what Hetty valued above all. The most important being her relationship with Jesus Christ whom she served her entire adult life with Four Lakes Community Church. The beautiful 37 year marriage she shared with Jack until his death in 1985. She remained devoted to him, wearing her wedding ring the rest of her life. She loved adventures with her siblings, Elga, Jesse, Blanche, Vernon, Ruth, Glenn and Carroll. She remained close to each of them as well as her many nieces and nephews. She adored being a mother and nurturer to her 4 children and welcomed Linda's husband Delbert and Gary's wife Sheila into the family with open arms. She was a hands-on Grandmother to Timm (Amy) Turnbough, Tina (Corey) Laughary, Tom (Sami) Turnbough, Bryce (Shannon) Hartford and Brenna (Brandon) Curryer. With whom she read thousands of books, played hundreds of games and created countless crafts. She was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Hetty was the neighbor and friend everyone wished for. Many neighbors were blessed with her meals, loaves of fresh baked bread, or handpicked raspberries she would deliver. She was the first one to roll up her sleeves to wash dishes or sweep the floor for an ailing friend.

She was preceded in death by her mother Almira and stepfather George Stroup, her husband Jack, her beloved daughter Janet, her son in law Delbert and six of her siblings.

Her legacy of love will live on in her family. "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." Proverbs 31:30

A memorial service will be held July 6th, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Hayford Community Church, 5306 S Hayford Rd, Spokane, WA 99224.
