Spokane International Airport has been awarded nearly $26 million in grant funding through the Airport Improvement Program by the Federal Aviation Administration. The funding will specifically be used for the West Terminal Ramp Expansion and Parallel Taxilane Project.
The West Terminal Ramp Expansion and Parallel Taxilane Project begins this Spring and will expand the existing terminal ramp near the C Concourse terminal and add two new Remain Over-Night (RON) aircraft parking positions.
A parallel taxilane will also be constructed to allow for aircraft to freely move behind aircraft that are pushed back from the terminal. The plan is to construct a concrete ramp measuring approximately 17,000 square yards. They will also need to put in 1,400 lineal feet of concrete taxilane, in addition to other associated work. The goal is to have the project finalized by summer 2024.
“This FAA AIP grant will help the Airport in delivering additional ramp space to support the ongoing Concourse C Expansion Project, as well as providing efficiencies by facilitating the flow of aircraft operations near the C Concourse,” said Spokane Airport Board Chair Nancy Vorhees in a June 1 press release. “We are grateful to Senator Murray, Senator Cantwell and Representative McMorris Rodgers for their support of our grant request.”
Spokane International Airport CEO Larry Krauter added, “The Project also adds Remain Over-Night aircraft parking spaces for current and potential new airline partners. Another benefit of the project is that it resolves conflicts that have occurred with aircraft pushing back from the C terminal gate areas at the same time which has caused delays by effectively blocking the ability of other aircraft to taxi to the runway or causing a bottleneck for arriving aircraft.”
