Valley athletes qualify for state 1B/2B/1A track meet

YAKIMA – Several Valley Christian athletes are competing this weekend at the state track and field meet at Zaepfel Field at Eisenhower High School.

Seniors Charesa Steinbach and Melanie Alexeyenko will lead the young Valley Christian girls state contingent comprising mostly freshmen and sophomores into the 1B/2B event.

Others who qualified for the meet include Aundreya Arnold, Katie Bellus, Charlee Bilbruck, Lilyanna Boomer, Lauren Fields, Aubre Hopson, Laura Hopson, Megan Hopson, Cloie Isley, Paisley Rounsley and Miranda Walker.

From nearby Freeman High School, seniors Stephanie Chadduck and Lily Jones also reached the meet in the Class 1A division, which is also at Zaepfel Field.

In the boys division, Valley Christian has 16 athletes competing, including Harison Arnold, Preston Arnold, Micah Bilbruck, Jonathan Drick, Ben Eichelsbacher, Westley Hendrickson, Job Hill, Simon Hill, Daniel Hisel, Trenton Lartz, Kade Mariner, Matthew Moore, Jack Siderius, Connor Simonds, Joseph Steinbach and Philip Yeromenko.

Freeman has 14 boys in the state meet, led by seven seniors – Caleb Cochran, Nathan Cochran, Ryan DelaCour, Hayden Fatherree, Jackson Grover, Bennett Johnson and Gunnar Reed.

Other Scotties competing at state are Cody Cayce, Sage Gilbert, Tyce Gilbert, Kanoa Rogan, Giovanni Sutherland, Rylan Talley and Luke Whitaker.

Events got underway Thursday and wrap up Saturday evening.
