Blackhawks topple Walla Walla before FACING Mt. Spokane

CHENEY – The Blackhawks boys baseball team continued its late-season surge going on the road May 6 at Walla Walla, beating the Blue Devils, 5-1, in an opening-round playoff game.

Walla Walla was the No. 3 seed out of the Mid-Columbia Conference.

Cheney, the No. 6 seed in the District-8 3A playoffs, won its seventh consecutive game behind a complete game from pitcher Quinn Hubbs, who scattered seven hits and struck out seven as the Blackhawks improved to 12-6 overall.

Hubbs helped his own cause going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Blackhawks got a 3-for-4 performance at the plate from Jamal Chabot, who also drove in three runs. Cheney nursed a 2-1 lead into the top of the seventh when the Blackhawks scored three runs, two of those on a Chabot single.

Cheney’s road to state next traveled through Greater Spokane League regular-season champion Mount Spokane where they played on May 9.
