Cardinal boys tennis co-champs

Medical Lake moves on to districts May 12-13

MEDICAL LAKE – The boys tennis team's 3-2 win over Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) earned the Cardinals a share of the Northeast A League regular 2023 season championship.

The Cardinals next compete May 12-13 at districts at Hart Field in Spokane.

The Cardinals will send a healthy contingent to that competition, a qualifier for the state championships to be played May 26-27 in Yakima.

The Top 5 boys move on to a regional play off with the B schools next May 19-20 at Mead High School.

From there, the Top 3 finishers will advance to state.

Medical Lake will be represented in boys singles by Brody Rector and Jonas Burt, while Josh Burt, Ryen Gibby, Mason Satko, Noah Young, Brayden Dickie and Jack Smith are set to compete in doubles.

Medical Lake's girls did not fare so well, going winless in league play, losing 3-2 in their NEA finale, also to Lakeside.

But the Cardinal girlss also qualify a group of athletes to districts.

Girls singles qualifiers include Isabelle Rhoads and Kayden Mindermann.

Lili Barnes, Adamary Martinez-Soltaro, Skylar DeVore, Hailie Scott, Marely Martinez-Soltaro and Sadie Evans represent the doubles.

For the girls, their path to state is a bit different.

While the top girls move on to state from district play, the second- and third-place finishers play a cross-over qualifier with the No. 1 and No. 2 from the Caribou Trail League next Saturday at Mead.
