SPOKANE – The Blackhawks track and field team collected solid individual finishes April 22 at the Mooberry Relays at Rogers High School, enough to deliver notable team finishes.
The Blackhawk girls topped the podium in the 4X100 throwers’ relay and the javelin relay to secure a second-place team finish, 76.32-71 to Mount Spokane.
Cheney’s boys had runner-up finishes in the 4X1600 and 4X100 which was good for fourth, also trailing Mount Spokane, 116.5-66.
Clara Browne, Mariah Hill, Marie Mayfield and Shauna Elliott won at 57.71 seconds in the 4X100 throwers relay. The other win came in the javelin where Shauna Elliott’s leading 113-foot, 5-inch throw, coupled with Mariah Hill’s, 98-04 delivered the javelin relay.
In field events, a team needed to have at least two competitors in order to qualify.
While the boys were kept off the top of the podium, they did deliver a pair of school records.
In the 4X1,600, Adam Estock, Calvin Hilton, Cameron Frenk and Conor Thomsen clocked an 18:29.83 time, second behind Mount Spokane’s 18:23.66.
Finishing with an 8:15.31, Estock, Hilton, Frenk and Teagan O’Callaghan set the new school standard in the 4X800 with Mount Spokane winning in 8:00.59.
Cheney’s boys also had a runner-up in the 4X400 featuring O’Callaghan, Hilton, Braxton Hinton and Kordell Laher 3:32.73, behind Mount Spokane’s 3:25.43.
The girls high jump relay saw Macey Richards (4-10) and Mariah Hill (4-08) collect the numbers that rewarded them with a runner-up finish.
The Blackhawks are back in Greater Spokane League competition April 27 at Central Valley in a meet also featuring North Central.
