West plains schools to receive settlement from JUUL

After a federal suit, schools across America receive settlement funds

CHENEY — The school district will receive just under $100,000 as a part of the federal settlement with Juul Labs, Inc., according to the minutes of the March 8 School Board meeting.

Cheney School District is one of 1,600 districts around the United States which will receive settlement money from the federal government. There are currently no restrictions on how school districts are to use these funds.

Districts will receive half of the settlement in 2023 and the rest will be distributed incrementally over the following three years, according to Garrett Williams, who was reporting to the board on March 8.

Williams said that the school board can act in the form of a resolution or a formal action item by the end of March to accept the settlement.

There is currently a social media suit which has been brought against several media entities for advertising which specifically targets children.
