BASEBALL:

Medical Lake opens tossing no-hitter

Medical Lake’s first time on the field in 2023 will forever be memorable as Luke Dickey and Griffin Marshall combined to throw a 12-1 no hit win on the road against the Connell Eagles, March 14.

Medical Lake lost the second game of the doubleheader 6-5 in a contest called after five innings. The Cardinals finished the week with 9-8 loss at Greater Spokane League Ridgeline, March 17 and 12-2 the following day at Ferris.

“(Marshall) kind of came out of nowhere throwing pretty hard and controlling stuff,” Cardinals’ coach Austin Sharp said. Dickey started and registered nine strikeouts. Freshman AJ Michaud had a pair of hits in the opener.

Against Ridgeline, the Falcons won in walk-off fashion scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh.

“That was a tough one to lose but you know good to see kids step up and play the bigger school and play them quite well,” Sharp said.

Medical Lake was scheduled to face GSL Rogers in a pair of games March 21 and open Northeast A League play March 28 at Newport.
