Eastern vaulter wins Big Sky AOW honor
Eastern Washington pole vaulter Hally Ruff was named the Big Sky Women’s Field Athlete of the Week as the conference announced its weekly Outdoor Track and Field honors on March 20.
At the Oregon Preview in Eugene on March 18, Ruff cleared 4.05m (13’ 3.5”) to start her outdoor season off on the right foot, setting the top mark in the Big Sky and the 10th best in the NCAA. Ruff didn’t skip a beat transitioning outside after winning bronze at the 2023 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships in Moscow last month.
The mark also put her 10th all-time on Eastern Washington’s outdoor performance list. The EWU record is 4.27m (14’ 0”), set by Keisa Monterola in 2012.
Ruff and the Eagles will next compete on March 23-24 at the Buc Scoring / Combined Events Meet hosted by Whitworth University in Spokane.

Big Sky track polls
announced
The Big Sky Conference announced their 2023 Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Rankings, as voted on by the league’s coaches. Eastern Washington came in at fourth in the men’s poll and seventh in the women’s voting.
The Eagles finished in the same slots during the recently completed indoor season, with the men taking fourth at the 2023 Big Sky Indoor Championships in Moscow, Idaho. The women finished seventh.
The EWU women finished fifth at the 2022 Big Sky Outdoor Championships while the men were 10th.
The Eagles will continue their outdoor season on March 23-24 at the Buc Scoring / Combined Events Meet hosted by Whitworth University in Spokane.
