Water main construction on Clay Street

CHENEY - Installation of new water main pipes and infrastructure has begun on Clay Street and is scheduled to be completed toward the end of April, 2023.

After the water main is installed, the team will move on to Elm Street, between North Sixth and Fifth Street, according to Public Works Department Director Todd Ableman.

"We try to have annual water main projects, but winter started early last year and hit hard, so this project was delayed." Ableman said.

The Community Development Block Grant programs is the city's primary mechanism for obtaining grant funds. This project is funded by American Relief, according to Ableman.

"It will be about 600 feet of water main. We were awarded the funds for the project earlier in 2022, but weather got it the way."

The city will also repave Clay Street and Sixth Street after the water main project is complete. "The contractor should be done toward the end of April. The paving contractor could give notice to proceed in the first part of May." Ableman said.
