Man arrested after Geiger Heights standoff

Arguello jailed on ATF hold, multiple charges

GEIGER HEIGHTS - A man wanted on a Department of Corrections warrant was apprehended Wednesday, March 8, after a brief standoff at the Windsor Crossing apartment complex.

Nathan Hadley Arguello, 33, remains in custody on $20,000 bail. He is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm (previous felony conviction). He is also being detained on an Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms community custody hold.

Arguello was arrested at the apartment complex at 5303 W. John Gay Drive at about 3 p.m., records show.

He was wanted on multiple counts of domestic violence protection order violations, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and a Department of Corrections warrant, record show.

Police responded to the complex after receiving information that Arguello was at a residence in the 5600 block of Smith Drive, adjacent to the apartment complex.

Spokane police and ATF and FBI agents responded to the scene, along with a local SWAT unit.

The officers deployed unmanned aerial drones at the scene.

"There was another person at the residence with Arguello who was not part of the investigation, and he was cooperative." Spokane Police Cpl. Nick Briggs said.

"We advised the school district of the situation, and the decision to lockdown was made as a precaution," he said. "There was no direct threat to the school, it was out of an abundance of caution for the safety of those individuals."

Briggs added that decision to lockdown area schools was made by school officials.

"The decision to lockdown is the school's, not ours." Briggs said. "This was exactly the resolution we wanted.

"Arguello was not initially cooperative, but we were able to resolve with no injuries."

Arguello was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail at 6:15 p.m. He was still in custody at press time.
