Bus drivers volunteer at 2nd Harvest

Event helps community, team-building

SPOKANE - Cheney School District bus drivers volunteered Friday, March 10, for various tasks at 2nd Harvest.

The 18 bus drivers spent about five hours sorting food items and assisting with other tasks.

This is a new program, Cheney schools Transportation Director Shane Ableman said.

"We decided to do this after one of our bus drivers made a suggestion at an in-service meeting," Ableman said. "The driver suggested that maybe this would be a good team-building exercise that would also help the community."

Everyone had a great time and the department will consider making this a recurring event, he said.

"This is also a good opportunity for our drivers to stay physically active," he said.
