Events Association gets insurance funding

CHENEY – The council voted 5 in favor and 1 against the motion to approve resolution F-133, lodging tax disbursement, to finance the purchase of insurance for the 2023 Cheney Rodeo, at their regular meeting on Feb. 28.

The Events Association, the entity which hosts the Cheney Rodeo, applied for a disbursement of the lodging tax fund to cover the costs of insuring the entire rodeo event. This cost was listed in the application as $14,500, with a provision that the disbursement not exceed $20,000 in the event that the cost of insurance increases.

Mark Schuller, city administrator, said “We have this hotel/motel committee that reviews applications for the use of hotel tax money that comes in to the city and placed in this hotel/motel tax fund.”
