Medical Lake holds council position interviews

MEDICAL LAKE – Council to hold interview for council position 2 at regular meeting on Feb. 21. There are currently 7 open positions on the council, and 3 applicants have been selected to interview for position 2.

At the last council meeting, Feb. 7, there were a total of 5 people who applied for position 2. “We had an executive session to select the top three candidates.” Mayor Terri Cooper said.

The three candidates who moved forward to the final interview taking place Feb. 21, are Ted Olson, previously sitting council member; and new comers Keli Schaffer; and Lance Speirs.

“The latter two candidates have been frequently seen at council meetings for some time now, and we appreciate their participation.”

After all these candidates have been interviewed, the council will go into executive session to discuss qualifications, after which they will open a public meeting during which the selection process will continue.

Mayor Cooper pointed out that there are 133 elected positions on the 2023 ballot in Spokane County alone. Nine of these are open in Medical Lake.

“Most seats are city council, school board, and fire districts. I encourage all citizens to get involved in their local government. Makke a difference!”

The council and Medical Lake School Board each have four positions, and Mayor Cooper said that she is appreciative of the increase in resident participation which she has seen over the past year.
