AIRWAY HEIGHTS – A fatal crash involving one vehicle took place on South Craig Road near the intersection of McFarlane Road, Jan. 16.
According to Spokane County Sheriff’s department report, the driver of a Black SUV was killed when the vehicle struck a power-line pole after losing control of the vehicle.
Initial investigation indicates that the black SUV, occupied by two adult females and a toddler, was traveling northbound on Craig Rd. and attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, according to sheriff’s report.
The SUV had reportedly completed the pass when another vehicle appeared in the southbound lane, after which the driver of the black SUV lost control of the vehicle while attempting to rapidly return to the northbound lane, according to sheriff’s report.
The driver then swerved off the roadway and struck a power pole. Upon arrival, Spokane County deputies determined that the driver and the toddler were still inside the vehicle, while the passenger had been able to remove herself from the vehicle, according to sheriff’s report.
After Spokane county fire personnel were able to remove the driver and the toddler, all three parties were taken to hospital for medical evaluation and care where the driver was pronounced dead, according to sheriff’s report.
Initial investigation indicates that the other two vehicles reported to have been on the road at the time were not involved in the crash, according to sheriff’s report.
