CHENEY — A male was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Cheney Spokane Rd. Jan. 21.
The man, identified by the Spokane County medical examiner as Cavin Firestone, 27, died as a result of blunt force injuries.
At about 3:00am on Jan. 21, a Cheney Police Officer reported to Spokane County Deputies that a single-car crash had occurred on Cheney Spokane Rd., according to Sheriff’s office press release.
A red 1997 Dodge Ram pickup was discovered overturned on the east side of the road by deputies who responded to the scene, according to Sheriff’s office press release.
The driver was still inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead by the Cheney fire department personnel when they arrived, according to Sheriff’s office press release.
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit Investigators were called to the scene to continue the investigation.
Initial investigation by the traffic unit determined that the vehicle was traveling north through the 15200 block of S. Cheney Spokane Road when the driver “failed to negotiate the curve,” according to Sheriff’s office press release.
The vehicle left the roadway, rolled, and struck a tree, sustaining heavy damage.
It is suspected that the vehicle’s speed may have been a factor, and the driver was not wearing his seatbelt during the crash, according to Sheriff’s office press release.
