Medical Lake Winterfest to begin Dec. 10

Mayor Terri Cooper gives her comments on her favorite city program

MEDICAL LAKE – The winter festival, in collaboration with Re*imagine Medical Lake, begins at 10a.m. on Dec. 10 at Medical Lake high school with a breakfast with Santa event, and ends at Coney Island park with fireworks.

“Winterfest was really intended to create a taste of small-town America.” Mayor Terri Cooper said. “We want everyone to feel like they are walking into a Hallmark movie.” A few events, such as the reindeer petting zoo, will be held outdoors, but others will be held indoors. The gingerbread house contest and the elf crafts will both be held in city hall between 1-4p.m.

The Christmas market, 10a.m. to 4p.m., will be held in the high school, and charges $3 for admission, $1 of which goes to benefit the city food bank.

“We’ll have a tree lighting and fireworks as well, which is really exciting.” Cooper said. “Candy, food, hot chocolate, all the things families can enjoy together. It’s almost all free to the people.”

Before the fireworks display, at 4:45p.m., there will be a parade that terminates at Coney Island park. “Really this is for everybody, and we want everyone to feel the joy of the holiday season.” Cooper said.
