Cheney holiday festivities begin at library with crafts and tree lighting

CHENEY – Holiday hoopla began at the public library at 5:30p.m. on Dec. 2. The event included such activities and amenities as crafts and ornament making for kids, group story time in the children's section, hot chocolate, and the tree lighting.

Also in attendance were members of the Cheney Centennial Lions Club, who were hosting and helping with the Christmas card making program. The cards made at this event will go to the residents of the Cheney Care Center.

The Mayor gave a proclamation at the event, stating "Whereas, during this annual season of good will, the old-fashioned tradition of a community holiday tree is being continued, sponsored in a joint effort by the Cheney public library, parks& recreation department, police department fire department; and the Cheney members association."

The mayor urged the residents of the city to celebrate the significance of the season in their own ways, encouraging cheerfulness and goodwill to their neighbors.

President of the Cheney Lions Club, Jessica Boyer, said "Community is important to all of us, and getting a chance to participate in the event this year is exciting."

"You know, these cards are really important to the residents of the care center. You can drop off cards you make at various local businesses around town by Dec. 15 and then they get delivered before Christmas."
