Eastern men have 1-2 week
Eastern Washington men’s basketball slipped in a win around a pair of losses last week.
The Eagles opened with a “home” loss 82-56 to Pac-12 Washington State in the Spokane Veterans Arena. They followed with a split at the Florida International Tournament in Miami beating Stony Brook 82-56 on Nov. 25 before losing to host Florida International 90-79.
Eastern had four players score in double figures against FIU as Steele Venters scored 17. Angelo Allegri had 15 while Tyreese Davis added 14 and Deon Stroud 10. Venters and Stroud were also later named to the All-Tournament team.
The Panthers doubled up Eastern’s with a 30 to 15 scoring advantage off the bench points.
Once again, four players reached double figures numbers against Stony Brook. Venters and Ethan Price each scored 15 points, while Ty Harper added 12 off the bench and Stroud added 11 points against the Seawolves. Eastern outscored Stony Brook 26-7 off 17 turnovers.
In the week’s first game, Venters once again led his team against WSU scoring 20 while Price added 11 points.
The Cougars opened with a 6-0 run and would never trail. The teams were tied at 7-7, but the Cougars pushed ahead 14-9 in what turned into a 12-0 run by WSU. Eastern would trail 36-21 at halftime
Eastern Washington was at Reese Court for the first time this season on Wednesday, Nov. 30 as they hosted NAIA Northwest University from Kirkland.

Eastern, women’s game postponed
Eastern Washington women’s basketball’s game against Gonzaga, set for Saturday, Nov. 26 has been postponed. The game was scheduled to be played at the McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane.
“Due to institution health and safety protocols, both teams mutually agreed to postpone the game and look for a date to reschedule,” a Gonzaga athletics news release said. Tickets purchased for Saturday’s game will be honored for the rescheduled date.
Eastern Washington will be back at Reese Court on Thursday, Dec. 1 against UC Davis at 6 p.m.

FOOTBALL:
Eastern lands All-Big Sky berths
Eight players from Eastern Washington football earned Big Sky All-Conference awards announced by the conference Nov. 23.
The Eagles’ punter Nick Kokich earned Second Team All-Big Sky honors after becoming a key special team’s player for the team this season.
Wide receivers Efton Chism III and Freddie Roberson were both selected on the third team. Marlon Jones Jr. gave Eastern three third team selections after the redshirt-sophomore developed into a key member of the secondary.
Redshirt-senior Gunner Talkington earned an honorable mention after taking over at quarterback in his final season in Cheney. Wyatt Hansen, Joshua Jerome and Mitchell Johnson all joined Talkington with honorable mentions for the season.

VOLLEYBALL:
Eagles ousted from volleyball tourney
The 2022 season came to an end for Eastern Washington volleyball on Nov. 23 as they fell in the Big Sky Tournament quarterfinals to Portland State, 3-1 in Ogden, Utah.
Eastern entered the tournament as the seventh seed and lost to the second seed Vikings, [12-25, 25-23, 23-25, 17-25] where Sage Brustad led the team with 10 kills and had 13 digs. Lindsey Russell played her final game for the Eagles, recording 35 assists and 12 digs.
The Eagles end the season with an 11-18 overall record and 6-10 in conference play.
