Medical Lake residents continue to object to urban development relocation

The city planning commission meeting held second reading of UGA changes

MEDICAL LAKE – Concerned residents continue to decry the changes to the urban growth area location at Medical Lake city planning commission meetings. Nov. 17

The public comments section was opened at the start of the meeting and resident Tammy Roberson expressed concerns about the verbiage in the municipal code regarding wetlands and buffer zones.

Follow up comments from resident Scott Holbrook also addressed wetland preservation and urban development.

A resident who wished to remain unnamed said “I would be directly affected by this proposed change to the urban growth area.” Speaking of the relocation of the UGA from the southwest of Medical Lake to the east. “I used to live and work in Cheney, and I moved away because they began development projects that are similar to this one, and it’s been a disaster.”

“If you move forward with this, it would completely conflict with the reasons I moved here in the first place.”

Further comments were given by Scott Sonneborn, who said “This area was indeed looked at about 30 years ago, and it was deemed unfeasible for urban development.” Sonneborn lives on Freeman drive, and his property would be included in the UGA. “I would prefer the UGA to apply to areas within the city limits. I wouldn’t mind city water and power, but many residents would.”
