Liberty girls compete at state

YAKIMA – The Liberty (Spangle) girls volleyball team survived to Day 2 of the state 2B tournament, but couldn't get past league rival Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

The Lancers were eliminated by the Broncos, 3-0, on Friday morning, Nov. 11. Set scores were 25-15, 25-17, 25-23. In winning, the Broncos avenged a loss to Liberty in the district tournament.

Liberty, seeded No. 7, reached Day 2 in the Yakima Valley SunDome by opening Thursday with a 3-1 win over the No. 10-seeded Brewster Bears. Set scores were 25-15, 25-17, 16-25, 26-24.

The win propelled the Lancers into state quarterfinals against No. 2 Mason that same night. Manson raced to a 1-0, lead, winning 25-120. But Liberty tied the game 1-1, winning the second set 25-22.

Manson quickly outdistanced the Lancers in the last two set s, winning 25-20 and 25-9, to advance to the semifinals. Ultimately, Manson finished third in the tournament.

Liberty's loss to Manson dropped them into the loser-out game Friday morning against Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

In losing to the Broncos, the Lancers' season came to an end; the Broncos went on to finish sixth in the state tournament .
