Spokane airport dedicates new truck transload facility

SPOKANE – Yesterday, leadership from the Spokane Airport Board, City of Spokane and Spokane County dedicated the Spokane International Airport (GEG) Rail-Truck Transload Facility located at 3911 South Craig Road, Spokane, WA 99224.

The Rail-Truck Transload Facility will provide multi-modal freight movement services to meet the increased demand from the area's commercial and industrial sectors for a larger transportation and logistics network.

Spokane Airport Board Chair Nancy Vorhees, stated, "The vision of the Airport Board in pursuing the Transload project has several elements. First, was to integrate modal choice inside a unique and concentrated area to complete an air, highway and rail system. Second, was to locate the Transload Facility in an area of our surplus property that could support future development as a catalyst for job creation and revenue opportunities through land sales. Third was to use the rail and transload facility to further our aerospace and advanced manufacturing business recruitment strategy."

Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward, commented, "The Rail-Truck Transload Facility represents an important strategic and long-term infrastructure investment that will extend our global reach while also delivering capacity and efficiency to support retention and growth of local businesses and recruitment of new business by providing multi-modal options over which to bring in the raw materials to manufacture their products and to move those finished projects through the most efficient and cost-effective modal option."
