Cheney High Cheer held a camp for younger cheerleaders throughout the district where those who took part were able to perform at intermission of the Blackhawks’ volleyball match with Mead on Oct. 20.
Cheer coach Curtis Lewis requested an opportunity for the young, upcoming cheerleaders to perform. Last year he held this event during a home football game and while “Friday Night Lights” are always ideal, it was a bit cold out, and he felt the shift to volleyball would help, head volleyball coach Heather Zorrozua wrote in an email.
“While I joked with my assistant, knowing we would compete against the number two team in the state, ‘Why couldn’t he have picked a different match so they could see a show,’” Zorrozua explained. “I ate my words at the end of the night; despite losing in three close sets, we put on a show.”
