CHENEY – The resolution to increase the contract amount to repair reservoir one from $60,000 to $310,000, will be deferred to November meeting. Oct. 25
The company contracted to survey the integrity of reservoir one proposed a $250,000 roof design for the aging structure. This amount was factored in to an amendment to the resolution which had budgeted $60,000 for the structural survey.
“The original contract was for assessment only. We only spent $13,500 of that.” Todd Ableman, City Planning Chair, said. “Now we have to design and affix a new roof, or decide on another option.” Ableman described what state the reservoir will be in for the foreseeable future.
“Next year, we will be running on two reservoirs. We’re going to have to plan around that deficit one way or the other. It will be challenging.”
Councilman Paul Schmidt raised concerns about spending money on a structure that may need to be replaced entirely. Schmidt said that cost of repairs vs. remaining lifespan of the structure may render repair fiscally unsound.
In light if these and other comments, the council voted unanimously to defer the voting until City Planning could acquire more information.
