With Joyalise O’Dell winning in four events, including teaming in the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relay, Cheney swimmers won two of three team competitions Sept. 30 at the Eastern Washington University pool.
The Blackhawks collected victories over Kennewick 88-80 and Clarkston 106-34 but lost to Hanford 99-69.
“The swimmers did pretty well considering the increase in training that they experienced in the week leading up to the meet,” head coach Jennifer Hochwalt wrote in an email.
O’Dell won in a time of 2 minutes, 4.35 seconds in the 200 Freestyle. She was also victorious in the 100 Backstroke in 1:04.83. She combined with Kate Kissell, Sage Schaefer and Lauren Howe was to claim the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:50.18) and capped the day for a win in the 400 Free Relay with Kissell, Howe and Hannah Ge (4:04.53).
Howe was part of three winning events, including her performance in the 50 Freestyle (25.24).
Kissell won (2:36.83) against Clarkston in the 200 IM. Ge also claimed an individual win in the 100 Butterfly (1:20.66) against Clarkston.
Other individual wins came from Maddy Pearson in the 500 Freestyle (6:58.65) against Clarkston. She was second vs. Hanford and Kennewick. Kitana Cano was first (1:29.45) against Clarkston in the 100 Breaststroke and runner-up against Kennewick.
Meghan Mix, swimming for Medical Lake won the 200 IM (2:36.70) as well as in the 100 Freestyle (1:01.67).
Medical Lake and East Valley compete with Cheney as co-ops with one swimmer apiece. “They just duel each other so that their results are official for state qualifying purposes,” Hochwalt explained.
