Cheney masons make much needed donation to 2nd harvest food bank

The Freemasons of Cheney donated to the 2nd Harvest Food Bank this month. This is nothing new to the Masonic Lodge, as they have been making annual donations to the food bank for more than 18 years. The Lodge usually makes a donation around November, when the "Tom's Turkey Drive" campaign takes place, but recently they received a letter from the food bank asking for a more urgent need. Food Banks have been hit hard the last few years, and an opportunity arose that the Lodge felt needed immediate response. A sponsor of the food banks offered matching funds for any money raised in the month of August, which multiplied the impact of the donation from the Lodge.

Curt Brown and Tim Steiner represented the Lodge as they presented Conor Ellert, from 2nd Harvest, with a check in the amount of $1,500 on August 10th. Conor is the Philanthropy Manager at the Spokane Hunger Solution Center. Conor said, "with the sponsors pledge to match funds, and the food banks buying power, this donation far exceeds $3,000 in value." The visit included a wonderful tour of the facility which highlighted how efficient the operations are.

Temple Lodge, the Masonic Lodge in Cheney, still intends to donate in November to support the turkey drive event. Each year, nearly every Lodge in the Spokane area makes contributions to help feed those that need the help, especially around the holidays. Nationwide, Masonic Lodges give millions of dollars in various charitable donations every day.

Temple Lodge encourages individuals, groups, or companies to get involved and donate time or money to support 2nd Harvest or whatever philanthropy needs assistance. There are so many programs and volunteer opportunities available in our communities, and ways we can make a difference.
