Man facing charges after stabbing friend

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – A local man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly stabbed his friend in the chest and fled.

Bobby E. Lewis, 22, was booked into the Spokane County Jail for first-degree assault, third-degree assault and felony harassment-threats to kill on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The victim, whose name has yet to be released, sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

The alleged stabbing occurred at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

Deputies responded to a reported stabbing in the 2200 block of North Craig Road and found the victim, the report said, noting he was provided medical care and transported to a Spokane Hospital.

Meanwhile, witnesses told deputies that Lewis was staying with his friend at the residence while looking for another place to live, the report said. The two friends allegedly got into an argument that turned physical and ended with Lewis stabbing the victim in a back room.

“The victim staggered out from a backroom into the living room as Lewis followed, still with a knife in hand,” the report said. “An uninvolved adult placed himself in front of Lewis, telling him to stop and to leave immediately.  Lewis pointed the knife at the second victim and threatened to kill him.”

Lewis then fled on foot; he also called 911 reporting that he had been stabbed.

Deputies responding to Lewis’ call found him in a field near West Knox Lane and North Craig Road, the report said. He had blood on his clothes but did not appear to have any wounds.

“He appeared to be highly intoxicated and having breathing problems,” the report said.

An ambulance crew arrived on scene and prepared to transport Lewis, when the suspect grabbed one of the responders and tackled her, the report said.

He made a fist and appeared to be ready to punch her, when a deputy stopped the attack and handcuffed him after a struggle, the report said.

Lewis was restrained on a gurney, transported to the hospital for possible injuries, then booked into the jail, the report said.

The ambulance crew member sustained only minor injuries, the report said.
