Feed Cheney meals set to resume

CHENEY – After a two-year hiatus, Feed Cheney will be resuming sit-down meals.

This month’s dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in the Wren Pierson Community Center, officials said. The dinner will be pulled-pork sandwiches, coleslaw, baked beans and a dessert.

Rusty Jackson and Harry Batty of the Rusty Jackson Band will be performing during the dinner.

Monday’s meal will be the first since 2019, when they were halted due to gubernatorial COVID-19 shutdown mandates.

Feed Cheney meals are usually served at 5:30 p.m. on the last Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Wren Pierson, 615 14th St.

Feed Cheney volunteers set up and serve the meals; there is no paid staff.

Carol Kreigh said volunteers are always welcome, and can contact her at 509-993-5462 or Donna Pearson at 509-235-4947 to participate in the effort to provide free hot, home-made meals and food to indigent residents.

Kreigh said the organization is again planning year-round meals.

During summer, meals are at Veterans’ Memorial Park, across the street from the Wren Pierson Building.

Efforts are made to enhance the dining tables with seasonal decorations and flowers, and use reusable dinnerware and flatware, Kreigh said. The clients include university students and local families.

“Many are ‘regulars’ and enjoy getting together for a monthly social dinner meet-up,” she said.
