Oregon pounds Eastern 70-14

The University of Oregon scored on every drive, except its final two, and punted just once in rolling to a 70-14 non-conference football thrashing of Eastern Washington Sept. 10 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene.

Trailing 28-0 in the second quarter, Eastern (1-1) scored with 6:03 left in the half on a seven-yard strike from Gunner Talkington to Jett Carpenter for his first career touchdown.

Oregon (1-1) opened a 63-7 lead over the Eagles when Talkington found Freddie Roberson through traffic in the end zone on a 15-yard reception for his first touchdown of the season with 2:18 to play in the third.

Talkington completed 12 of 21 passes for 87 yards and threw two interceptions.

This was the most points Eastern has allowed since an 84-21 loss to the Houston Cougars in the Astrodome in 1990. Oregon won the only previous meeting 61-42 in 2015. Terrance Ferguson and Byron Cardwell each scored twice for the Ducks,

Eastern next has its bye week before hosting FCS title game runner-up, Montana State, Sept. 24.

Eastern wins twice at home

Eastern Washington soccer completed the home portion of its non-conference schedule Sept. 11 with a 4-1 win over the University of Louisiana. The Eagles made it two wins is a row and improved their record to 3-3-2 following a 1-0 win vs. the University of North Dakota Sept. 8 in Cheney.

Eastern dominated its game against the Ragin’ Cajuns as four different Eagles scored. Madison Kem collected her second goal of the season while Corina Froehle, Mya Elder-Hammond and Grace Terrill each had their first goals of 2022 as Eastern scored twice in each half. Kamryn Willoughby had nine saves in the net for Eastern.

Maddie Morgan scored the lone and game winning goal in the win over UND in the 58th minute. Kamryn Willoughby had four total saves and earned her second career shutout.  

Eastern will close out non-conference play at San Jose State Sept. 15 and are at Boise State Sept. 18.

Eagles back from Boise Classic

Eastern Washington’s volleyball team competed in the Boise State Classic this past weekend, playing three matches and finishing 1-2.

The Eagles opened the weekend with a 3-0 sweep of Southern Utah [25-18, 25-18, 25-18] on Friday morning. Sage Brustad had a game-high, 14 kills and Alyssa Radke followed with 12 kills.

Later that day, Eastern dropped a 3-0 match to Butler [26-28. 20-25, 22-25].

Lindsey Russell recorded her third double-double of the season against Butler with 32 assists and 11 digs. Radke set a career-high with 13 kills against Butler.

On Saturday, the Eagles battled the host school, Boise State, tough, but fell 1-3[26-24, 19-25, 15-25, 20-25]. Brustad had 17 kills in the game and Russell recorded 38 assists.
