Policeman guilty of sex crime

SPOKANE – A former police officer has been found guilty of sex crimes while serving the city .

A jury found Nathan R. Nash, 38, was guilty of second-degree rape with aggravating circumstances and third-degree rape, court records show. He was found innocent of another second-degree rape charge and innocent of unlawful imprisonment.

Following the verdict in Spokane County Superior Court, Nash was booked into the jail to await and October sentencing hearing.

The trial lasted 15 days before Judge John Cooney. It was prosecuted by Spokane Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Amanda Fry and Jerry Scharosch.

The verdict stems from an investigation that began in October of 2019, when the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office took over investigation of the case against Nash, who was then a city policeman.

Records show the Spokane Police Department requested the investigation after receiving two complaints.

Spokane County Sexual Assault Unit detectives Brad Humphrey, Sgt. Rob Satake, Sgt. Brandon Armstrong and Nathan Bohanek were assigned to investigate the case.

After wrapping up their investigations, detectives arrested Nash on Aug. 4, 2021.
