Eastern Washington women's soccer opened its 2022 fall schedule with a pair of home field exhibition shutout wins at the EWU Soccer Field 3-0 over the University of Calgary Aug. 9 and then 8-0 against Yakima Valley Community College Aug. 12.
Eight different Eagles scored against the Yaks and the team had a 31-2 shot advantage.
Goals from Elisabeth Cole, Maddie Morgan, Katrina Kupp, Skyler Matthews and Candace Carlson gave the Eagles a 5-0 lead. Yakima Valley would misplay a ball inside the box that resulted in an own goal for a 6-0 lead at halftime.
Mya Elder-Hammond put the Eagles up seven at the 71st minute and Lyric Baker wrapped up scoring in the 73rd minute.
Against Calgary Kupp opened the scoring for the Eagles in the 14th minute, set up by a pass from Gillian Martin who would later score giving Eastern a 2-0 lead.
Out of the break, the Eagles extended their lead, this time with Martin scoring at the 48-minute mark. In the 58th minute, Morgan converted a missed shot off the post and scored on the rebound to close out scoring.
The Eagles rotated Kiara Matson, Kamryn Willoughby and Sydney Reagan in net as they recorded a combined shutout over Calgary.
Martin would lead the team with three points on the night, with Kupp and Morgan adding two. Eastern out-shot the Dinos, 15-7.
Eastern begins regular season play with road matches at Oregon State (Aug. 18) and the University of Portland (Aug. 21) before returning home Aug. 25 to host Nevada.
