Couple arrested in vehicle prowl

Witness reported seeing suspect smash window

MEDICAL LAKE — A couple was arrested July 29 after they allegedly smashed a window in a vehicle and stole a number of items.

Ty A. Holland, 25, and Rachell M. Brown, 35, both of Spokane, were arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office records show. They are facing possible charges of second-degree theft from a vehicle, second-degree vehicle prowl and third-degree malicious mischief.

Both have subsequently been released from the jail, records show.

Their arrest follows a call of a vehicle prowl in Waterfront Park, in the 1300 block of South LeFevre Street, at about 7:21 p.m., records show.

Records show a caller witnessed a vehicle pull up next to a parked vehicle.

Someone got out of the vehicle, smashed a window and removed items, records show.

Deputies contacted the owner of the vehicle, who reported that business checks, a cell phone, a backpack and some cash was stolen, records show.

The owner estimated the theft at $1,100 in value and damages of $300, records show.

The witness was able to provide enough detail to deputies to track down the couple, records show. Deputies applied for and were granted a search warrant for the couple.

During a search, deputies found identification not belonging to the couple, records show. They also recovered most of the items stolen in the vehicle prowl.

The couple had $250 in cash on them, which was confiscated as evidence, records show.

In an unrelated arrest at 9:55 p.m. the same day, deputies apprehended a man on an active warrant after a vehicle was initially abandoned in the intersection of Fellows Street and North Walker Street.

Two people walked back to the vehicle as deputies were investigating the incident, records show. One was arrested.
