Eastern women's soccer season set

CHENEY – The Eastern Washington women’s soccer schedule is finalized with Coach Missy Strasburg beginning her second season at the helm.

Fourteen players are turning and 16 newcomers are on the roster.

Returners include All-Big Sky first team selection, Madison Kem, and All-Big Sky defensive honorable mention, Mya Elder-Hammond.

Kem, a junior midfielder, tied for the team lead with three goals last season, including two game winners.

Elder-Hammond played in all 17 of the team’s matches and logged 1,503 minutes, helping Eastern to record four shutouts.

The Eagles begin with two exhibition matches, starting with University of Calgary at 5 p.m. Aug. 9 at home.

Eastern will then hosts Yakima Valley Community College at 5 p.m. Aug. 13.

The regular season opens on the road as the Eagles travel to Oregon State on Aug. 18, then to Portland on Aug. 21

Eastern’s home-opener is set for 4 p.m. Aug. 25 against Nevada.

The Eagles then head to Pullman for a 1 p.m. Aug. 28 game Washington State.

In September, the Eagles host Denver on the 1st, travel to UNLV on the 4th and then return home Sept. 9 to face North Dakota and Sept. 11 against Louisiana.

Eastern’s final non-conference matchups are on the road against San Jose State on Sept. 15 and Boise State on Sept. 18.

Big Sky competition begins Sept. 22 with the Eagles hosting the Vandals, followed by a home game against Weber State on Sept. 25.

Eastern’s next three matches will be road contests against Northern Colorado on Sept. 30, defending conference champions Montana on Oct. 2 and Northern Arizona on Oct. 6.

Following the road trip, the Eagles will enjoy three-straight home matches starting with Sacramento State on Oct. 14, Portland State on Oct. 16 and Idaho on Oct. 23.

The Big Sky tournament will take place in Greeley, Colo., from Nov. 2-6.

Last season, the Eastern women went 5-12 overall, 3-6 in conference.
