Bus drivers wanted

Cheney— The Cheney School District (CSD) is looking to add bus drivers to its transportation fleet. CSD Superintendent Rob Roettger said regular and substitute drivers are needed.

“As you are most likely aware, school districts around the nation are struggling to attract and retain school bus drivers for various reasons—Cheney Public Schools is no exception,” Roettger wrote in a community-wide email. “Bus drivers are vital to our mission of ensuring a safe and caring environment for all students.”

Roettger said drivers are more than just an essential part of the district’s transportation system.

“They build relationships with students, encourage and hear of their successes, challenges, joys and accomplishments,” he said. “It (being a bus driver) truly can be a rewarding experience for drivers and students alike.”

For those interested in becoming a bus driver, the Cheney Public Schools will hold two driver training sessions over the summer, including classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training Call 509-559-4523 for more information.
