Girls Tennis blanks Medical Lake

CHENEY— The Blackhawks turned in a dominating performance vs Medical Lake Saturday, March 26, taking a 7-0 match from the Cardinals. The win moves Cheney to 2-2 on the season.

“It was a great win to close out our non-league matches,” coach Linnea Love said. “We’re anticipating next week’s matches against U-High and G-Prep for our first league matches of the season.”

Cheney found little resistance from Medical Lake with one match going to a tiebreaker at third doubles.

Second Doubles: Camilla Erikson/Hayley Knudtson (CHS) def. Lili Barnes/Kayden Mindermann (ML) 6-0, 6-1

Third Doubles: Tess Fillmore/Morgan Weathers (CHS) def. Khyla Slater/Kenzi Hammel 6-2 3-6 Tiebreaker 10-3

Cheney travels to Gonzaga Prep Thursday to open league play. The match gets underway at 3:30 p.m.

The Knight proved to be more than the Blackhawks could handle on March 22, overpowering Cheney 5-2 in nonleague action. The Blackhawks dropped three of four singles matches and two of three doubles matches. The lone victory came from First Doubles Jenae Potter and Colleen McKinnon who turned back Grace Stoner and Athena Lyons-Huss, 6-1, 6-2.

Cheney matched up with University on March 29, but the results were not available at press time. The Blackhawks are at Gonzaga Prep on March 31. The match gets underway at 3:30 p.m.
