ROSALIA – Rosalia is celebrating its 150th anniversary with the return of Battle Days and the All Class Reunion after a two-year absence.
Lori Furman moved to Rosalia three years ago and immediately joined the Battle Days committee. She dedicated much of her time to the event. Furman took on the roles of secretary and treasurer for the board of directors.
Battle Days have been a long-running event and is marking its 51st annual event in 2022 on June 4.
“We are finally going to have a Battle Days and it’s been in the works since COVID-19 started,” said Furman.
The All Class Reunion is for all graduates, staff, and anyone with ties to the community. Battle Days commemorates the 1858 U.S. and Native American conflict and is a memorable moment in Rosalia’s history.
Furman offered several reasons to celebrate Rosalia’s anniversary.
“Various activities like a fun run, barrel racing, pickleball, luncheons, and museum tours are some of the things we are excited to have, especially with the Rosalia parade and vendors we have,” Furman said.
All proceeds celebrating Battle Days benefit the museum in Rosalia.
“We really want to remind everyone and celebrate what happened here. It was the last native victory here,” Furman said. “A lot of children don’t know about this and it’s a shame. We just want to have a really great reminder and go out about how important this area is.”
An entire exhibit dedicated to the town’s 150 years will be on display. A historical display of art is highlighted by the Battle Days Committee as it brings to life the art by Nona Hengen. Her painting “Prelude to War” is one of many that the committee recommends viewing in person.
“This is for the local community and for people who aren’t here anymore,” Furman said. “We want them to know that we acknowledge the history and reminder of Rosalia’s past. We want to celebrate the heritage of the area for both sides.”
